Come to the Oasis
Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.”
– John 4:13-14
Commitments to the Group
Foundational Priciples
Commitments to the Group
- We will always be respectful of your time
- Starting and stopping on the planned time as best as possible while being sensitive to the Holy Spirit as to the needs of a particular situation
- We must always be respectful of each other
- We will sometimes disagree with comments or perspectives – however, we must always be respectful and allow dignity for each individual created in the image of God.
- Presentations focused on Biblical truth, not personal opinion
- We must be careful to focus on Biblical truth, not inject personal opinion
- “I know what the Bible says, but here I what I think…”
- Do our best to foster an environment of practical application of Biblical truth
- We must all endeavor to apply what we know and learn – head knowledge is not sufficient
- Non-Denominational presentation
- We must respect the various denominational traditions – but focus on the common ground, not debate the differences. If we can disagree about a topic and still go to heaven, not worth the effort.
- However, there are basic foundational biblical beliefs that we must hold fast to (Foundational Principals)
- Available to anyone of any faith tradition or no faith tradition
- While personal opinions may be expressed, this gathering is not intended to be a debate club
- We must avoid sitting in the seat of the skeptic
- While we want to address the whole Gospel and not be deceived or fall into false teachings, it is also not the intent to debate every topic
- We must speak the truth in love
- Love is a decision, not a feeling. As such, we must rely on the Spirit of God to guide us in our conversations with each other and those outside the group.
- Speaking the truth in love is done with the intent for what is best for another, not to make ourselves feel “right” or justified in our opinion or feelings
- We will be sensitive to the group to adjust format as the Spirit leads
- This is a new initiative, and as such, we want to let God lead us to what is in His will for us
- If we have clear leading to change the approach or any detail, we must be open to adjustment
Foundational Priciples
- The Bible is God’s presentation of Himself and describes His interaction with the universe and humankind.
- Jesus is the incarnate Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a Roman cross as a substitute for the sins of all humanity, was raised to life on the third day, and returned to the Father in Heaven where He advocates and intercedes on our behalf. He will return one day to Reign and Rule until the culmination of this age, and usher in the eternal Kingdom.
- There is a God, and He can be known, and makes Himself available to every person.
- There is an absolute source of truth, and God Himself of the source of that truth.
- Believers are intended to live out their faith in community together.
